Tourist Visa
Persons wishing to visit India as tourists, or for meeting friends and relatives, will be given six months tourist visas. Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. Double or multiple entry tourist visas should be applied for if the applicants wish to also travel to neighbouring countries and return through India.
Documents required
- Original Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages.
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph.
- Visa Application form duly filled in and signed.
- Visa fees - - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Business Visa
Business Visa is granted to a foreign national who wants to visit India to establish an industrial/ business venture, to explore possibilities to set up industrial/business venture, to purchase/sell industrial products or visit the Indian offices of their companies for business meetings, setting up facilities, training etc. Non-Irish passport holders may please note that Business visa can be considered in their case only if they have been resident in Ireland for the past two years. Proof of such residence (in the form of utility bills or Bank statement - one of two years back date and another recent) should be submitted along with the application and other documents listed below. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.

- Additional form (for Business visa applicants only)
- An signed letter from the employer in Ireland introducing the applicant with details of his designation, passport etc and stating nature of his visit to India, its duration, number of visits envisaged etc.
- A signed letter of invitation from the Indian entity which the applicant will visit on its letterhead stating the purpose, duration and number of visits for which visa is required.
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Utility bill or Bank statement - one dated two years back and another recent (with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Journalist Visa
Granted to professional journalists, photographers, television and film crew. Visa is granted for a period up to three months. Journalists and photographers are granted only Journalist visa irrespective of the purpose of their visit. Those going on long term residential assignments to India may contact the Embassy for visa application.

- Visa Application form filled in and signed.
- Letter from the employer stating the purpose of travel.
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
- Film crew will be required to furnish a synopsis of the film / documentary or new item they will be filming with the details of places they will visit, names of crew, list of equipment imported into India for the filming etc.
- Special permits will be required for filming in archaeological, heritage and restricted sites.
Student Visa
Student visas are granted to bona fide students to pursue regular studies at recognized institutions in India and to persons going for studying Yoga, Vedic Culture, Indian systems of dance/music etc at recognised and designated Cultural Institutions. The visa is valid for the period of study as approved by the educational/recognized institutions in India. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.
Students sponsored by AIESEC for project based work in companies/industries are eligible for business visa and those going for community/social services will be granted entry visa.
Documents required
- Original Passport to cover duration of course
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph
- Visa Application form filled in and signed.
- Letter of admission from a recognised Indian educational institution clearly stating the name of the course, its duration and fees charged including (board and lodging) including for courses like yoga, Vedic culture, Indian dance & Music
- Document showing financial support for the tuition fee and stay in India.
- No objection letter from Parents of applicant to study abroad for applicants below 18 years
- Visa fees - - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Conference visa
Conference Visas are granted to applicants on production of an invitation to an International conference /seminar/workshop being organized in India by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India; public sector undertaking; central educational institution; public funded universities; organizations owned and controlled by the Government of India/State Government/Union Territory/United Nations or its specialized agencies. The organisers of the conference etc are required to obtain prior clearances from nodal/line Ministry concerned of the Central/state governments, the Central Ministries of Home and External Affairs. These approvals are to be conveyed to the Embassy and to the applicants who should include them with their applications

- A copy of the signed Letter of Invitation for the Conference from organizers in India.
- A copy of the letter from the Institution represented in Ireland.
- Clearance letters from the Indian Ministries as indicated above.

- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Medical visa
A Medical visa is given for a medical treatment. Duration and number of entries of the visa will depend on the nature of illness and its treatment certified by the Indian consulting doctor. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.

- Original Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages.
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph.
- Visa Application form filled in and signed.
- Relevant letters signed and stamped from the hospital concerned in India.
- Visa fees - - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Medical Escort visa
A Medical Escort visa is given to those who are accompanying a patient. Maximum of two escorts are permitted with a patient. Visa is granted coterminous with the visa of the patient. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.

- Original Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages.
- One recent passport-size photograph.
- Visa Application form filled in and signed.
- Letter from doctor/hospital certifying the requirement of an attendant.
- Documents relating to the medical treatment of patient
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Research visa
Research Visas are granted for Research work for a maximum of three years or for the duration of the research project, whichever is earlier. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.

- Original Passport valid to cover the duration of the research.
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph.
- Visa Application form filled in and signed..
- Submission of subject of research along with the application
- Original admission letter of recognized university. (emails or photocopies of admission letters will not be accepted
- Evidence of financial resources.

Transfer of long-term visa
For transferring a long term visa from an old passport to a new passport, applicants are required to submit the old passport which holds the valid Indian Visa and the current valid passport. Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages

Entry Visa
An Entry Visa is given for specific purposes such as visiting relatives, voluntary / internship work, or for any other purpose not covered specifically under any of the other visa categories. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days.

- Original Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages.
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph.
- Visa Application form filled in and signed.
- Invitation letter from the organization/agency based in India and a letter from the concerned institute in Ireland for persons going for voluntary work. For students letter from their institutions and letter of financial guarantee either from parents or Bank.
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
- Recent utility bill or Bank statement with name and address of applicant printed on it for proof of residence in Ireland (only for non-Irish passport holders).
Employment Visa
Employment visa is granted to a foreigner to take up an employment in India. Visa is granted for the duration of the employment or to a maximum period of two years whichever is less. Annual salary should not be less than USD 25000 per year. The employment will have to be subject to Income Tax as stipulated by the IT Act of India as applicable. Registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is required within 14 days of arrival in India if the stay is more than 180 days. Employment Visa will be considered only if an Indian Company is authorised by the Government of India to employ foreign nationals and will be only to specialised positions. Employment visa will be accepted at this embassy only from citizens of Ireland. Applicants of other nationalities will have to apply for their visa from the Indian Embassy in their country of origin.
Foreign nationals who wish to come to India for honorary work (without salary) with NGOs registered in India are granted employment visa for a one year duration. However foreign national can draw a monthly remuneration not exceeding Rs. 10000/- for honorary work. Further extension is done by the state governments/Union Territories/Foreigners Regional Registration Office, and Foreigner's Regional Registration Office.
In case of change in employer, a fresh employment visa will have to be applied for and obtained from the Indian Mission in their country of origin of the applicant.

- Visa Application form duly filled in and signed.
- Proof of employment in the form of detailed employment contract giving detailed terms and conditions of the employment by the company/organization etc. in India, which should be signed by both the employer and the applicant.
- Letter of offer of employment from the Indian company.
- Documentary proof of educational qualifications and professional expertise.
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
Project Visa
Project visa is granted to foreign nationals going to India for execution of projects in the power and steel sectors.
Documents required
- Original Passport valid for a minimum of 180 days with at least two blank pages.
- One recent 5x5 cm-size photograph.
- Visa Application form duly filled in and signed.
- Letters from the employers of the applicant and the Indian company offering the employment
- Employment contract with detailed terms and conditions
- Visa fees - Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'.
Project visa will be accepted at this Embassy only from applicants who are citizens of Ireland. Applicants of all other nationalities should apply for their visa from the Indian Mission in their country of origin.
Transit Visa
A transit visa is granted to enable applicants to transit through India to destinations in other countries.. The visa will be valid for entries within one month of date of issue for a maximum stay of 3 days on each transit. Transit visa is not required if a traveller will be transitting from within the airport. However, a transit visa will be required in case the transit involves clearing and recheck-in of baggage on another airline (as in the case of travel to Nepal, Srilanka etc) as this will involve clearing Immigration before proceeding to the departure area for taking the onward flight.Travellers are advised to confirm the requirement with the airline at the time of booking their tickets.

In case of emergency or extreme urgency, visas can be granted within three working days, if the visa officer is convinced of the genuineness of the need. In such cases, an additional visa fee (Express Visa Fee) of Euro 50 will be charged, over and above the applicable visa fee indicated above. This facility is available only to Irish passport holders.
